COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT,
PARTICIPATORY ARTS & HERITAGE PROJECTS
NTDesign works with local authorities, community organisations, heritage groups, schools and charities to develop
imaginative community engagement and participatory arts projects across Scotland and the UK.
Led by artist and creative practitioner Neil Thomson, projects combine illustration, creative workshops, guided walks,
storytelling, music, creative writing, performance, modelmaking and heritage interpretation. Through creative and
multisensory experiences, participants are encouraged to explore their surroundings, share ideas and develop
a stronger connection with their local communities.
From illustrated community maps and creative community consultation to heritage interpretation, educational activities
and collaborative artworks, each commission is developed around the people, place and purpose of the project.
The aim is to make participation accessible, enjoyable and productive, helping communities contribute
their knowledge, experiences and creativity to achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes.
"Neil was commissioned to create a community map for a pilot project on the Antonine
Wall in West Dunbartonshire. We were delighted with the map that was produced.
Neil's creative input, energy and enthusiasm made him a joy to work with"
